How To 3D Print Parts from McMaster-Carr
3D printing the hardware from McMaster-Carr is easy and AutoDesk Fusion 360 makes it very simple to integrate parts from McMaster-Carr into your designs by simply choosing the required part you want to integrate into your CAD design. It allows you to download the STEP files directly into your workspace.
Importing McMasters Carr to AutoDesk Fusion 360
While in your MODEL environment in AutoDesk Fusion 360, select INSERT from the top menu bar and select “Insert McMaster-Carr Component”
A new Mc Mcmaster Carr window will popup showing you all the categories on the left and a sub-category of the parts on the right.
Go ahead and choose your part, in this case we will choose “Screws & Bolts”. Here you can either choose some parameters to simplify the search on the right, or scroll through the screw types until you find what you’re looking for. We will here choose “Socket Head Screws”
You will then be given an option to choose which type of socket head screw you require, which in this case is the “Socket Head Screws”
Go ahead and choose which type of socket head screws you require:
On the next screen for the Socket Head Screws you can either choose fully threaded or Partially threaded screws to minimize the search further, or else, you can scroll down in order to see the full list of available socket head screws and part numbers
Once you have found the part you are looking for, click on the part number which is located to the right of the screen:
Once you click on the product number, a small popup will appear giving you the option to place an order. On this window, click on “Product Detail”:
You will then be given all the technical information about the screw, however, if you scroll all the way down, you will find a drop-down list to choose which file format you wish to download, Go ahead and choose “3-D STEP” and then click on “SAVE”:
The CAD design of the part you chose will automatically be downloaded into your workspace ready for positioning and rotation:
Then it’s just a matter of finding the right position and orientation of the part you download and continue with your project. You can of course insert more than one part into your project. While all parts are different and the sub menus might change a little bit due to the part itself, the process is always the same for all parts.
